Three arrested after van is used to damage garages

THREE garages across North Tyneside were left damaged after a series of late night incidents at the weekend where it is believed a vehicle was used.

The first incident happened at Hollywell Motor Company, Church Road in Backworth at 0.19am on Sunday, when a van was reversed several times into the garage door.

It is believed that no entry was gained to the premises, the van subsequently drove off.

The second incident happened a short time later, at 12.44am, at Drive better for less, on Earsdon Road, Shiremoor, when a the door was driven into by a vehicle, smashing it off its hinges.

The third incident happened minutes later at Ewen Court in North Shields when the van crashed into a garage in a residential street.

Three people were arrested in the North Shields area a short time later on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

Two women aged 24 and 27, and man aged 22, are currently in custody assisting officers with their enquiries and suspected stolen property was also been recovered following the arrests.

Police are carrying out house to house enquiries and extra uniformed patrols are in the area to reassure residents.
