Training course on green energy systems

A TRAINING course to help communities understand how they can develop their own green renewable energy systems is to take place in the north east.

Community Renewable Energy (CoRE), which works with communities to set up systems, is developing the accredited course after receiving 10,000 funding from the Big Lottery's Awards for All fund.

The course – run over three days – will look at the different type of renewable energy options communities could use, such as wind turbines, hydro systems, wood fired boilers and anaerobic digesters which generate energy from manure, slurry, silage and other organic materials.

Keith Richardson, chair of CoRE, said: "Lots of people are interested in renewable energy and making sure their community is doing its bit to tackle climate change.

"We have a network of over 200 members, many of whom have told us they want to know more about renewables so they can act.

"The course is aimed at creating a skilled pool of community volunteers who can work with other members of their community and link into the CoRE Network to develop renewable energy systems that will generate income for their communities and benefit the environment."

It is expected that the first of three courses will be run in the early summer.

Anyone interested in participating or in joining the CoRE Network should contact Val Tobiass at val@core.coop call (01289) 309669 or go to www.corecoop.net
