TWO people have been arrested after a woman’s body was found dead in house in Holywell.

A 32-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder early Monday evening.

The arrests followed the discovery of a woman’s body in a house in Holywell around Monday lunchtime.

Officers attended an address in Wallridge Drive following enquiries into a collision in Shiremoor, where a car crashed into a lamppost in Bertram Place.

The police find was less than an hour after emergency services attended the scene of the collision in Shiremoor, where the occupant of the car, a woman, was taken to the RVI in Newcastle.

Her condition was described as serious but not life threatening

After the discovery, Northumberland area command Temporary Chief Superintendent Dianne Winship said: “We are at the earliest stages of an investigation into today’s events.

“We have yet to formally identify the woman in the house and it would not be appropriate to give any details of her until this is done.

“We believe that the woman in the car and the woman found in the house were known to each other and we do not believe that there is any wider danger to the public.”

“Local residents can be reassured that we will have extra officers in the area not only as part of the investigation but also to address any concerns people may have.”

Anyone with information about the death or the crash is asked to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number.
