TWO more specialist doctors have joined a health trust ahead of the opening of a new specialist emergency care hospital.
Dr Elizabeth Hall and Dr Rob Whittle have been appointed as consultant intensivists and anaethetists to provide expert care to patients in intensive care in North Tyneside and Wansbeck general hospitals.
Their appointments mean Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust now have five specialists trained to the highest possible level in intensive care.
Work has started on the state-of-the-art hospital in Cramlington, to be staffed by highly-trained and experienced medical professionals representing the main clinical specialities.
Dr Eliot Sykes, head of service for critical care at the trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Liz and Rob to our team. It demonstrates our commitment to developing a world-class critical care service by recruiting top quality specialists.”
Both Dr Hall and Dr Whittle have previously worked in the Trust earlier in their careers.
Dr Hall said: “When I worked here as a junior doctor I was inspired by the positive attitudes of the staff and the feeling that we were working as a team.
“I always hoped that I would return and am thrilled to have been appointed. I am excited to be part the new emergency care hospital and the opportunities this will bring.”
Dr Whittle said: “The trust is leading the way with its novel and pioneering approaches to acute and critical care so I was keen to come back.”
