A new attraction in Wallsend town centre will open its doors for the first time tomorrow (Friday).

Work has been completed on Wallsend Customer First Centre, with officials at North Tyneside Council preparing to welcome the first visitors and users from 9am.

The new centre features a library, customer services advice suite, self-service cash payment kiosks, plus three community rooms for hire, an art display area, public toilets, baby changing area and free wi-fi.

The state-of-the-art library will include 26 public-access computers, self-issue and return terminals and comfortable seating areas.

The first 50 customers through the door on Friday will be entered into a draw to win tickets to ‘Tyne’ at The Theatre Royal, Newcastle; a performance which journeys in time and space along the banks of the mapping the history, atmosphere and soul of the river in story, music and images.

A series of events and guests have already been lined up for the centre.

Children’s poet Craig ‘That Poetry Bloke’ Bradley will be dishing out his own blend of poetry madness on Thursday, March 13, at 4.30pm.

An evening set in the world of Jane Austen is on Thursday, April 3, at 7pm.

Travel back in time to the Regency period to look at the design and construction of the ornate gold-encrusted court gown inspired by clothes worn by Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, and a white cotton afternoon dress fit for Jane Austen. Tickets cost £6.

Anyone interesting in booking a place for either of the events, or wants more information, should call Wallsend Customer First Centre on (0191) 643 2075, or visit any North Tyneside library.
