A new website is helping shoppers take advantage of special offers at a businesses.

The recently-launched mi-NorthTyneside website carries information about more than 400 business and services in the borough, with more than 140 offers online so far.

Residents and visitors can sign up to the service – also available as a smartphone app – to receive details of deals and information on local events.

John Fleet, North Tyneside Council’s town centres manager, said: “Successful, vibrant businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy and we are committed to doing all we can to support them.

“North Tyneside firms told us that they would value extra support to promote and market their businesses.”

The Lazy Lizard Surf Shop in Whitley Bay, a surf fashion and lifestyle store, was one of the first to join sign up.

Owner Shane Walker, 42, said: “I think this is a really good idea.

“We have ambitions to grow and expand our business and hope to set up at least one more store in North Tyneside, and employ more staff.

“Hopefully advertising on the mi-NorthTyneside site will help in some way.”

The mi-NorthTyneside system has been developed by technology service provider miconex

Richard Gray, of miconex, said: “We are delighted to be working closely with North Tyneside Council.

“By providing this service for free to businesses we will be able to further enrich the content on the apps, website and social media.

“This in turn makes the proposition stronger for the consumers.

“We have big plans for the mi-NorthTyneside system and are currently developing the platform to add further features and functionality, all aimed at helping businesses to sell more.”
