West End star drops in to school

A MUSICAL star has dropped into a Tynemouth school to talk about her career on the West End.

Rachael Wooding, currently starring as Eva Peron in 'Evita' at the Newcastle Theatre Royal, spoke to senior pupils at King's School about her work in 'Hairspray', 'Starlight Express' and 'Cats'.

And she also talked about her current role in the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber production, which features Seamus Cullen (from the BBC's 'Any Dream Will Do' show) as Che Guevara.

Rachael advised the pupils to make the most of the opportunities to sing and act at King's, and to get involved in amateur operatics and drama in the local community.

She said: "The pupils were a delight to talk to.

"They were polite and asked probing questions.

"I was thrilled to hear how much acting and singing is on offer at the school.

"I'd love to return and help out in any way I could."

Rachel Bayley, 15, from Tynemouth, said: "It was great to meet someone so talented, confident yet friendly and down to earth.

"She has put in a lot of hard work and dedication.

"She confirmed what our teachers have told us about singing and acting. The only way to get there is by hard work and careful preparation."

Simeon Zack, 15, from Jesmond, added: "Rachael was inspiring. She's struggled and made sacrifices to get where she is.

"I've already been involved at The People's Theatre and have done some TV and film work.

"Meeting Rachael has encouraged me to continue."
