Whitley Bay 'Pudding Run' frozen out - video

ICY conditions forced the postponement of a Boxing Day tradition at Whitley Bay.

The annual 'Pudding Run' was called off for the first time in its 23-year history because of treacherous conditions underfoot on The Links.

Hundreds of competitors had been expected to take part in the 3.5 mile event, run along footpaths on the sea front.

The run - which gets its name because every finisher receives a Christmas pudding - is a major fundraiser for Woodlawn School.

Val Brown, Head Teacher at the special school which takes pupils from all over North Tyneside, said: "We are absolutely devastated to have to call the run off, but there was no way we could take the risk.

"Hopefully we can re-schedule it for later in the year."
