A mum who lost her mother to Alzheimer’s Disease is to hold her third fundraising event for the charity this year.
Sally Dunn, from Monkseaton, lost her mother Sylvia seven years ago aged just 59.
And since then, the 33-year-old has devoted all her spare time to raising much-needed funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Her third and final event of the year will be a Winter Ball held at the Assembly Rooms in Newcastle on November 23.
Earlier this year, the mother-of-four organised and took part in a Zumbathon and also did a tandem skydive, raising £2,000 for the charity.
Sally, who teaches baby and pre-school swimming classes and jointly runs her own baby and toddler play club Messy Monkeys in Cramlington, says she has been overwhelmed by the support from family, friends and strangers.
She said: “I’ve been pleasantly shocked and heartened by the number of strangers who have donated towards our efforts or offered words of support.
“There is still so much to do to increase awareness and understanding of the disease, so I hope we can do that, and raise a few more pounds with our winter ball at the Assembly Rooms at the same time.”
North east swing singer Jason Isaacs will be performing at the three-course dinner, while there will be a raffle and fully qualified childcare if parents were struggling to find babysitters.
Sally said: “Like me, a lot of people really struggle with babysitters in order to enjoy a good night out.
“The Assembly Rooms has been great in organizing separate rooms for little ones to either sleep or have their own party too. We’ll have fully qualified childminders from The Splat Centre in Whitley Bay overseeing this area.”
Simon Spencer, community fundraising support officer for the north, hailed Sally as an inspiration, saying: “We are delighted that Sally is supporting Alzheimer’s Society with what I think is fair to describe as her innovative and diverse fundraising ideas.”
Tickets for the event are priced £35 for adults and £17.50 for children. They are available from.2013winterball.co.uk
