Nursery children from a borough school visited a fish and chip shop as part of their topic on explorers.
The youngsters from Appletree Gardens First School took a trip to Seashells in Monkseaton, where owner Dave Heywood opened up early to allow the children the chance to have a look around.
The staff explained how the shop worked and about the different choices on the menu, and showed the children how large quantities of potatoes were washed and peeled in minutes by a ‘rumbler’ machine, then quickly sliced into chips by a ‘chipper’.
Nursery teacher Cath Quigley said: “The staff at Seashells have been fantastic, and the children have learned so much from seeing what goes on. We would like to say a huge thank you to Dave.”
