Youngster’s quick thinking saves friend from injury
Police road safety presentation at Whitley Bay's Star of the Sea Primary School after a pupil was saved from being hit by a car-pupil Alex Eaton with award.
A YOUNGSTER who pulled his friend away from a moving car has been rewarded for his actions.
Ten-year-old Alex Eaton, from Star of the Sea Primary School in Whitley Bay, was presented with a certificate by Chief Superintendent Steve Neill and Pc Paul McKenzie for rescuing his friend Daniel Beni.
As the boys walked home from school on January 29, Daniel, ten, stepped out to catch his bus without noticing an oncoming car.
Alex quickly shouted and grabbed Daniel’s rucksack to pull him back onto the pavement.
Daniel did sustain an injury to his arm but could have been more seriously injured if Alex had not intervened.
Pc McKenzie said: “Alex’s actions have potentially saved his friend from more serious injuries.
“I want to commend him for what he has done and also stress the importance of road safety to the pupils.”
Alex was also presented with shopping vouchers by North Tyneside Council.
