Nearly 1,300 children have been given advice on how to stay safe near water.
Before breaking up for their summer holidays, a number of schools received a visit from members of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade.
They were helping spread the important message of water safety to youngsters as part of Drowning Prevention Week, run by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS).
Brigade members delivered water safety talks and explained what to do in an emergency, gave demonstrations of the equipment they carry, and taught some basic first aid skills.
In addition, children enjoyed fun and interactive activities to help highlight how to stay safe around water.
Among the borough schools visited were Bailey Green Primary School, Kings Priory, Preston Grange Primary, Southridge First plus Beech Hill Primary in Newcastle.
