Youngsters win competition for public speaking
SCHOOLS battled it out in a recent competition to encourage teenagers to be more vociferous.
The Rotary Club of Whitley Bay hosted a Schools Speaking Competition at Whitley Bay High School to encourage public speaking as an important life skill.
In a close contest between teams in the 14 to 17 years age group from Whitley Bay High School, Monkseaton High School and King’s School, the adjudicators from Tyneside Speakers Club adjudged Whitley Bay High School to be worthy winners.
The winning team from Whitley Bay High School will now progress to the Rotary International District ‘Youth Speaks’ Competition to be held at Hallgarth Manor Country Hotel, Pittington near Durham on Sunday, March 3, where they will challenge school teams from Hartlepool and Sedgefield.
The winning team from this competition will then face a trip to Glasgow where the Regional Final will be held on March 17.
