For some runners, the London marathon this weekend will be the end of a lifetime challenge.
But for one Tynemouth man, it is just the start.
Jason Roberts is to complete seven iron events in seven days in 2015.
And he is using the marathon as part of his preparation for the epic challenge.
Travelling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, he will take part in a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2 run every day for seven days.
Jason said: “I suffered from back problems and five years after my first operation needed another one, so I decided it was time to change my lifestyle for the better and started healthy eating and keeping fit.”
Now after a number of small challenges, Jason is setting himself one of his biggest tasks yet, and is hoping to raise £50,000 for two children’s charities along the way, Children North East and CHUF.
He said: “In this day in age, young children in our area should not be suffering, but they are and I want to be able to go some way to help them.”
