An organisation that supports people with a disability is celebrating a major cash boost.

North Tyneside Disability Forum, based at the Shiremoor Centre, has been awarded £228,048 over three years from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities Projects Fund.

The grant, to NTDF Young People’s Powerful Young Lives - Positive Futures Project, will enable the group to build and further develop work to enable disabled young people to become confident and able adults of tomorrow.

It will fund salaries for a full time project development worker and a part time young voice youth worker, plus office equipment and general running costs.

Sue Adams, chief officer, said: “We are absolutely delighted. If our disabled young service users of today are to become the adult service providers of tomorrow, they need the confidence, competence and opportunities to fulfil their potential.”

“The Powerful Young Lives Project works to enable this.”
