Lottery grant for Dome a result of years of work

It is welcome news that the Heritage Lottery Fund has, at last, awarded a £3.7m grant to North Tyneside Council for works at the Spanish City Dome.

This news is the culmination of years of work begun by Conservative former Mayor Linda Arkley.

The plans were given outline planning permission in 2011, and include stylish cafes, leisure use and facilities for young people – a good family mix, plus housing on the wider site. I look forward to the appointed developers now starting their work.

The coast has seen several improvements from Tynemouth along to the Cullercoats boulevard in recent years, and it will be good to see the Dome restored. I hope that the second stage of the Lottery bid will be equally successful.
