Residents are being reminded of the chance to win a cash boost while also helping light up a station.

A Big Little Lottery is taking place to raise money for Christmas lights to go up at Whitley Bay Metro station for the first time.

Friends of Station Road are working alongside Whitley Bay Big Local on the fundraising initiative, with design options being drawn up with North Tyneside Council.

Organisers are hoping to raise £6,000 to cover the cost of the lights for this year and future years.

As part of that, tickets are being sold for £1 each with half the money raised going towards the lights appeal while the other half will be won by one lucky ticket holder.

Tickets are being sold at various venues around Whitley Bay, including the Roxbrough cafe, The Fat Ox, and House of Beauty in Park View.

The lottery will be drawn on November 28, when it is hoped the lights will be turned on for the first time.

A spokesperson said: “Please support your local community and buy a ticket or two. You never know, it could be you.”
