Man charged after hit and run in North Tyneside

Police have charged a man in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Longbenton.

On Sunday, February 21, a car collided with an eight-year-old boy in West Farm Avenue. The boy sustained a serious leg injury and received treatment at the RVI hospital in Newcastle. He has since been released and is making a recovery at home.

Inquiries were carried out into the collision and Dean Kevin John Urwin, who is 28 and from George Road in Wallsend, has been charged with failing to stop after an accident, driving with no insurance and making a false statement to obtain insurance. He will appear at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, May 18.
