A MAN has died from serious injuries today after he was found in a Wallsend street.
Police and ambulance crews were called to St Peter’s Road in the town at 5.30am today (Wednesday), after a member of the public discovered a man with serious injuries.
The 24-year-old was taken to Newcastle’s RVI hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
An area of the road was closed for two hours and has now reopened.
Police have launched an investigation into how he sustained his injuries and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 5.26am this morning we received a report expressing concern for the welfare of a man in St Peter’s Road, in Wallsend. Officers and ambulance staff attended and a 24-year-old man was found with serious injuries.
“He was taken to the RVI Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Inquiries are ongoing at this time and an area of the road was closed for around two hours to allow for investigation. There is not thought to be a third party involvement at this time.
“A report is being prepared for the coroner.”
