Manhunt after killer absconds from prison

A manhunt is underway for a killer from North Shields who has absconded prison.

Michael Robson was jailed in 1996 for the murder of Robert Williamson following an incident on the Meadowell estate, although his conviction was reduced to manslaughter on appeal in 2006.

But South Yorkshire Police are searching for the 44-year-old after he absconded from an open prison in Doncaster.

Robson left Hatfield Prison on Thursday, July 16, and has not returned.

Prison staff became aware he was missing at around 12.30pm and notified police shortly after.

Since then, officers have been carrying out extensive searches within the prison and the surrounding area to find him.

Robson is white, around 5ft 9ins tall, of stocky build and has brown hair.
