WORKERS and shoppers were caught out today after a heavy thunderstorm hit the borough.
Just after 4pm the skies turned black and monsoon conditions battered North Tyneside, leaving those on the streets to run for shelter.
Motorists were also caught out as roads flooded across the north east, and driving conditions became treacherous.
People looked on as the sky lit up with lightning bolts followed by rumbles of thunder.
Residents took to Twitter to voice their concerns about the growing storm as it travelled across the north east – some dubbing it a ‘mega storm’.
