Members of Whitley Lodge WI were welcomed to their July meeting by president Liz Bryson.
She also welcomed back Vera Jameson, who gave her report on the 98th national AGM held recently in Cardiff.
Moya Collins gave a brief but interesting account of the Suffragettes and the lengths they went to obtain the Parliamentary vote.
The guest speaker for the evening was Miss J Tindall, who gave a talk and slide show entitled ‘The introduction of tea, coffee and chocolate’.
Members enjoyed the talk as to how these products were eventually introduced into Europe around the middle of the 17th century.
Jean Watling gave the vote of thanks.
The next meeting is on September 10, at 7.30pm, in St John’s Church Hall, Ilfracombe Gardens, Whitley Bay.
New members are welcome.
