Two Whitley Bay gardening companies are joining forces to create a mini flower show garden for this year’s Whitley Bay Carnival.

Mike Brannigan, of Mike Brannigan Gardening Services, and David Hills, of Hills Landscapes (North East) Ltd, have previous experience as apprentices working on the Whitley Bay Flower Show during the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

Now as one of the sponsors of this year’s carnival, they will be putting on a mini flower show outside the Spanish City on Saturday, May 23, from 11am to 6pm.

And they are appealing for anyone who any photos of the former flower show to get in touch so they can be used during the display. Anyone who can help should contact Mike on (0191) 253 1618.

Mike, who prior to becoming self employed in January worked almost four decades for North Tyneside Council, said: “The show was a very popular event for both residents and local growers which during its heyday attracted thousands of people to the Links every August Bank Holiday.

“It is a real miss so Dave and I are doing a mini colour filled display of all things horticultural and as part of this want to display peoples photographic memories of the show.”
