Two men are being sought in connection with alleged racial verbal abuse on a Metro.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident on a train at around 9.30pm on Friday, March 6.

We take all reports of hate crime seriously and would always urge people to report such incidents to police.

The train had been travelling from Meadowell station to Cullercoats when two men shouted racist abuse at two black men, who then got off the Metro at Tynemouth.

The pair who shouted the abuse then got off the train themselves at Cullercoats.

The racist abuse was reported to police by other passengers on the Metro and officers want to trace the two black men who were the subject of the attack.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Jon May said: “We take all reports of hate crime seriously and would always urge people to report such incidents to police.

“We’re appealing for those two men who were subjected to this verbal racist abuse to contact officers. We’d also like to hear from anyone else who was travelling on the Metro and may have witnessed this incident to come forward.”
