I’d like to apologise to your reader Sandra Forrester for the long wait she had for a Metro replacement bus service on Saturday, March 12.
There were serious problems that weekend due to emergency gas main repairs between Tynemouth and Cullercoats stations, causing hold-ups for all traffic.
While this could not have been predicted, Nexus and North Tyneside Council worked together with the utility company to get these lifted as soon as possible and the bus service has operated much more smoothly since.
I do understand Mrs Forrester’s frustration with having to catch a bus instead of a Metro.
The line has been closed for the complete replacement of track and trackbeds and improvements to drainage.
We hope the short-term inconvenience is outweighed by the long-term benefit this will provide for people in North Tyneside.
