FISHERMAN Michael Smith is putting his art and soul into the ongoing campaign to raise funds for the Cullercoats watch house.

This is the sixth year that Mr Smith has produced a replica painting to raise cash for the landmark.

It will go on show at Cullercoats Lifeboat Day at the watch house on Saturday, and anyone wanting to buy it can put in a sealed bid for over £200.

The 66-year-old, of the Esplanade in Whitley Bay, has done a copy of Winslow Homer’s Fisherfolk on the Beach at Cullercoats this year, adding a personal twist by replacing one of the women in the painting with a likeness of lifeboat fundraiser Cathy Blackman.

The winning bid will be revealed on Saturday, September 8, when the watch house is opened as part of the Heritage Open Days initative.

All proceeds will go to the watch house restoration fund.
