An energy and water consultancy is helping a community organisation develop for the next five years.

Utilitywise, based on Cobalt Business Park, is sponsoring South Shields-based Harton & Westoe Miners’ Welfare Club.

The firm has provided the sports club with a total of £25,000 to support the community organisation for the next five years.

The welfare club was originally set up for miners in the local area but is now open to the wider public and offers sports, recreational, social and educational facilities.

Utilitywise chief executive Geoff Thompson said: “Utilitywise is proud to announce their sponsorship of Harton & Westoe Miners’ Welfare Club.

“They play an important role in community life.

“And as a home-grown north east business we want to do all we can to give back and help ensure that the surrounding area continues to thrive.”
