More snow is on the way in the North East this morning, as thousands woke up to a blanket of white.
Up to five centimetres of snow could fall, with ice an additional hazard.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of snow and ice for the North East, with sleet and snow showers until at least lunchtime.
The Chief Forecaster says: ‘An area of more frequent rain, sleet and snow over parts north eastern England will continue into Sunday morning introducing an increased ice risk on untreated surfaces where skies become clear until a couple of hours after dawn.
‘Meanwhile, a cold north easterly flow has become established across much of Scotland with sleet and snow showers affecting areas exposed to the north east. During Sunday morning, these showers will become more frequent over the far north of Scotland and the Northern Isles.’
