Name and shame may be the answer with dog mess

I write in reference to the letter on dog mess (News Guardian, September 19).

I regard myself as a responsible dog owner and I totally agree with everything R Strachan states in the correspondence.

I have often felt ashamed at the state of the pavements and grass verges left in such a state by irresponsible owners as this ‘type casts’ all dog owners as the same and this is not the case.

I don’t know the answer to the problem as confrontation normally leads to verbal abuse.

Name and shame may help, but people need to be made aware that it is their responsibility to ‘clear it up’.
