A new attraction has popped up on Whitley Bay seafront.

Visitors to the coast will be able to see a second dome sitting on the Spanish City Plaza as a festival makes its return.

The inflatable structure is part of the North Tyneside Summer Festival; a packed programme of events across North Tyneside which gets underway from tomorrow (Saturday).

Whitley Bay’s ‘Under the Dome’ group will kick-start the proceedings with two full weeks of creative mayhem on the Plaza and inside the inflatable Dome, featuring an amazing line-up of local artists, dancers and musicians alongside national and international stars.

The Under the Dome Festival will launch on Saturday, July 18, from noon with a Salsa Party, then continue with an eclectic array of performances, right through until August 2.

Mayor Norma Redfearn said: “We’ve got an amazing array of entertainment programmed for this summer, and it’s set to be even better than last year.

“This inflatable Dome is a brilliant addition to the fantastic performance space we have at the Spanish City Plaza, and will enable people to enjoy the entertainment, whatever the weather.

“We’re delighted to be working closely with the Under The Dome group to support their festival, then we’ll be continuing the fun right through until the end of August with a fantastic programme of family events.”

North Tyneside’s Summer Festival features a six-week long programme of free events which will run daily during the school holidays along the new Spanish City Plaza and inside the temporary, inflatable Dome in Whitley Bay.

There will be live music, Punch and Judy shows, a kite show, street entertainers fresh from Edinburgh Fringe Festival, film screenings, a mini roller rink, princess characters and more.

North Tyneside’s Summer Festival is supported by DFDS Seaways.
