FORMER Newcastle United captain Alan Shearer has heaped praise on the ‘Have a Heart’ golf day, after over £100,000 was raised.
Shearer, who was playing in the golf tournament to support the Childrens Heart Unit Fund, was just one of a number of celebrities who got involved in the day which took place at Close House in Wylam.
Also in attendance were Ant and Dec, world No. 3 Lee Westwood, Bobby Davro, Alan Hansen and a host of football stars from both Newcastle United and Sunderland, including Ryan Taylor, Steve Harper, Shola Ameobi and Lee Cattermole.
BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen and his team scooped the top golf prize after finishing first on a day that’s likely to live long in the memory for everyone involved.
The £125,000 which was raised through an auction and by people buying tickets to take part in the golf day, will go towards the Childrens Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
