NEWCASTLE United defender Steven Taylor returned to his old school to open their new £200,000 3G football pitch.
Taylor, who’s currently recovering from a serious injury in a bid to be fit for the 2012/13 season, went back to Valley Garden’s Middle School in Whitley Bay to do the honours after attending the school as a boy.
He spent time with the children on the pitch, offering them some pointers and even got involved in a game of cricket on the pitch, which can be used after hours by members of the public.
The centre-half said: “I’m jealous really, it’s a fantastic facillity and certainly miles better than anything I had when I was at the school.
“Hopefully it’ll give the football team here a big boost, because they’ve always had good teams here and you never know, maybe it’ll help one of them become a professional player in the future.”
