North Shields family escape arson fire

Four children had to escape a property in North Shields last night after a fire broke out.

The youngsters and a woman were unharmed following the blaze on Guisborough Drive, in which a 29-year-oold has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

It happened at 2.05am, on Saturday, June 14, when police received a report from the fire service of a fire at the address.

Officers attended the scene where a woman and four children had escaped the property unharmed. They stayed in alternative accommodation overnight.

No-one else was injured as a result of the fire.

Investigations into the cause of the fire, believed to have started in the loft of the house, are continuing today.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of arson. He is currently helping with enquiries.

Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information which could assist the ongoing investigation.
