PUPILS from a number of schools in the borough got the chance to show off their computer skills at a special networking event.
34 primary, secondary and special schools from across the North East attended the Northern Grid ICT in Education Awards at the Gosforth Park Marriott hotel.
They were celebrating their success in using technology to provide exciting and innovative learning opportunities for themselves.
Before the ceremony there was an exhibition of all of the shortlisted entries, showcasing how pupils of all ages use computers and new technologies to create movies, animations, computer games, art and music as part of their learning at school.
They are also using technology to communicate and collaborate through video conferencing, learning platforms and blogs, with some of the children involved have family serving abroad in the armed services, or grandparents who have emigrated but they can still keep in touch.
