Cycling friends have raised hundreds of pounds for charity – with more to come.

The seven women from Whitley Bay are due to ride more than 130 miles in three days on the Coast to Coast route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.

We were really happy with the way it all went

Pat Higham, Diane Green, Alison Ward, Ann Morris, Fiona James, along with mum and daughter Pam and Alex Lloyd, are raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Parkinson’s UK and the British Heart Foundation.

Before setting off, they raised £550 with a night of entertainment at the Townhouse pub organised by Pam and Pat and her colleagues from the Halifax Bank, in Park View, as well as staff from branches.

Pat said: “We were really happy with the way it all went.

“We’d like to thank all the local businesses that gave their support, including 129 coffee shop, Chapman’s the jewellers, Pets n things, Beauty to You by Jen, Francesca, Caterpak, Whitley Bay Ice Rink and Sainsbury’s.”
