A North Tyneside care home joined thousands of others around the country in opening its doors to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.
The open day at Swan Lodge in Wallsend had a carnival theme with entertainment by a magician, fire throwers and stilt walkers, as well as face painting and live music.
It also marked a year since flooding devastated the building.
Swan Lodge manager Lesley Connor said: “During the flash flooding last June our home was underwater and we lost the ground floor at Swan Lodge and Hunter Hall, the other care home on the Wallsend site.
“The water rose half way up the walls we had to evacuate both ground floors, staff stayed on all night to help with the clean up as all emergency services were deployed elsewhere.”
Since then Four Seasons, who own both homes on the site, have funded extensive refurbishments, with the ground floors finally being reopened in March.
Lesley added: “We wanted to host an event to mark the fact that we are reopen, thank our residents for their patience and also thank the local community for helping us during our hour of need and what better day to host it than National Care Home Open Day.”
