Two cadets from Wallsend have taken part in commemorative parades in northern France.
Cameron Douglass, and Ryan Evans, both 14 and from 1151 (Wallsend) Squadron Air Training Corps, took part in the Normandy Veterans ‘Association on the 69th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The pair travelled out to Colville-sur-Mer for a week of visits and parades, as well as helping members of the association.
Cpl Evans was chosen to be the bearer for the 1151 Squadron banner and carried it at the Colville-Montgomery, Rots, 46 Commando, Juno and Arromanches Parades.
Cpl Evans said: “The highlight of the visit was the Arromanches Parade, where we acted as wreath carriers for the French and British officials along with the veterans’ association representatives.”
Cpl Evans and Cadet Douglass also acted as escorts to the veterans, many of whom are now in their 90s.
