New facilities have been opened at a popular centre in Meadowell.

Funding was approved for a new outdoor play area and a youth play area at The Meadows Community Centre.

The new facilities at Meadowell Connected mean youngsters can play football and basketball while there is now an internet cafe and a computer suite for adults to use.

A special event was held to mark the opening of the new attractions, with Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn on hand to carry out the official opening.

Events that took place on the day included a barbecue, food demonstrations and stalls.

To keep youngsters entertained there was a penalty shoot-out featuring local schoolchildren, a bouncy castle, tombola, face painting, drama sketchers and more.

An evening event took place featuring local musical acts.
