A borough charity has completed its programme of supplying £15,000 worth of patient care packs to 20 hospitals in the north east.

The Angels of the North, based in Whitley Bay,presented 80 packs to North Tyneside General Hospital’s emergency care unit this week.

The charity’s honorary chief executive officer, Barbara Connors-Fowler, said “I am particularly impressed when nursing staff reported to me that giving an adult patient a care pack often leads to a conversation about their overall wellbeing.

“Not only do the packs help with infection control, but they are individual to each patient because they come in a waterproof, resealable bag.”

The bags are filled with essentials such as soap, shower gel, shower cap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth, and comb.

Ward manager, Sister Clare Rhodes, said: “Many patients attending in an emergency do not have the chance to pull together a few essential items, so to have these packs in the department makes such a difference and improves patients’ experiences.”
