A bus driver has swapped four wheels for two after winning a brand new mountain bike.

Peter Jones, 50, from Meadowell, won a competition organised by employer Stagecoach North East’s catering provider, P & A Food Management Services.

I was over the moon to win the prize, as I really didn’t expect to be picked out.

The prize was as a result of a staff survey, in which P & A Food Management Services Ltd consulted with employees to find out their views and see what additional services could be brought in, including a new healthy range of food.

All the names of those who took part were put into a draw, with Peter’s name picked first, and he is now the proud owner of a Real Clifton Hybrid bike, which the whole family can use.

Peter, a bus driver at the Slatyford depot in Newcastle, said: “I was over the moon to win the prize, as I really didn’t expect to be picked out. I will certainly give the bike a go, but I think my wife and son will be really keen to take it out for a ride.”

Peter was presented with the bicycle by Edward Naylor, managing director of the catering firm, who provide canteen facilities for the local bus operator at three of the bus depots across the north east.
