A YOUNG dog handler and her beloved pet will be appearing on the small screen this month.

Rebecca Edney, 12, from High Heaton, attends the K9 Academy in North Shields with her dog Petra.

The pair have taken part in a series of auditions to appear on the CBBC programme Who Let The Dogs Out, which showcase junior handlers doing tricks with their dogs.

Dog trainer Susan Candlish, from K9 Academy, said: “Rebecca was one of 36 children chosen from 527 who applied to be on the show, so they were obviously impressed by Rebecca and Petra’s repertoire of tricks and training.

“We are delighted that she has got through the audition process and will be appearing in the show.”

Each episode of the show shows three children and their dogs at The Dog House learning a new trick.

Rebecca also won the top dog award from the show.
