A solicitor friend of mine in North Shields, John Scott, sent me a copy of the November 20 , 2014, edition of the News Guardian.
I was very interested in the article on the forced internment of the Benbow Battalion of the Royal Naval Brigade in Holland for the duration of the First World War.
My wife’s father, David Thomas Ridley, formerly of Dove Street, Cullercoats, joined the battalion in 1914.
He was interned in Groningen, Holland.
My wife recently acquired some photographs of his time in Holland.
I have had them scanned and sent a CD to Steve Young of the Tynemouth World War One Commemoration Project.
Interested readers may want to contact the project – firstname.lastname@example.org – as there are many men in the photos. It should be possible to identify some family members.
