The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks on the A1 and A19 in Northumberland and North Tyneside over the next week, from Monday.
A1 Alnwick: The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24hours-a-day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.
A1 Morpeth: There will be a lane closure northbound for sign installation work. This will take place from Monday (June 22) to Wednesday (June 24) between 9am and 5pm.
A19 Silverlink to Wallsend, North Tyneside: The southbound exit slip road at the Wallsend junction will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for maintenance work from Monday (June 22) to Friday (July 10). There will also be a lane closure on the southbound carriageway. The project is due to be completed July 15, and a diversion will be in place.
Highways England, which is responsible for the A-roads in this country, says: “This summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Tuesday, June 16, and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement and maintenance work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.”
