MORE than a dozen terraced houses are to be built on the site of a former North Shields social club.

North Tyneside Council’s planning committee has given the thumbs-up to proposals put forward by Shaun Dunn, of Vernon Drive in Whitley Bay, to have seven terraced homes built on the site of the recently-demolished Lynn Social Club in Cragside Avenue.

A further six terraced houses are to be built in nearby Netherton Avenue.

Four of the new homes will have three bedrooms, and the other nine will have two bedrooms.

There will be eight parking spaces in Netherton Avenue and a communal parking area offering 10 spaces, as well as a bin store, in Cragside Avenue.

The council received six letters of objection from residents concerned about the impact the development could have on traffic in the neighbourhood and on their privacy.

Councillors came out in favour of the plans, however.
