Time has been called on a North Shields pub following a police application.
A case was put forward by police at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court to close The Tun following reports of assaults and disorder over recent months.
Magistrates upheld the case and the premises have now been closed pending a future licensing review on October 15.
This is the first time the area command has used a closure order of this kind.
Chief Inspector Steve Readdie, from North Tyneside area command, said: “The vast majority of pubs and clubs in North Tyneside are well run and we have a good relationship with licensees.
“Where there are increased levels of violent offences, which of course is unacceptable, we will take action.
“Licensees have a key role to play in our communities ensuring their premises are responsibly managed, any impact on the local people from their establishment is minimised and crime and disorder prevented.
“We will continue to work with our partners to take action against those premises causing the most concern in our communities.”
