POLICE in Wallsend are getting on the ball for a fundraising football event next week.

A sponsored penalty shoot-out, will be held at Willington Quay and Howdon Boys’ Club in Shafto Street on Tuesday from 11am to 3pm.

Wallsend’s neighbourhood policing team and the boys’ club are hoping to raise £250 for children’s charity Clic Sargent.

Police community support officer Sarah Hayton said: “Clic Sargent approached our neighbourhood policing team about putting on a fun football fundraising event.

“The boys’ club is on my beat, so I asked them for their help in arranging a charity event.

“The children are really keen on kicking a ball and helping others, so we decided to harness their enthusiasm and encourage their skills by having a penalty shoot-out.

“This charity helps young people and their families who are ill, so they can relate to the cause too.”

The penalty shoot-out is part of Kick, Clic Sargent’s annual football fundraising campaign.

It hopes to raise £150,000 this year by getting 130,000 children across the country involved.

To take part, turn up on the day, or to donate a prize for the raffle or tombola, contact Sarah Hayton on 03456 043043 ext 69191.

Admission is £1 for adults and 50p per child.
