Police name man killed by Metro train

A man killed by a Metro train in North Tyneside has been named by police.

The body of David Sydney Black, 62, from the Whitley Bay area was discovered on the line approaching Cullercoats Metro station on Saturday evening.

The incident is believed to have happened at around 7.45pm near Burnside Road and North View in the village.

A police spokesperson said enquiries confirmed that Mr Black was struck by a Metro train.

Police are continuing the investigation into the death and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

During the incident on Saturday night, the Metro was suspended between Monkseaton and North Shields, with passengers able to use Go North East buses and then a replacement bus.
