Police offer advice on how to thwart festive thieves

POLICE are getting out and about to offer Christmas crime prevention advice to shoppers in Wallsend.

Officers will be at the Forum shopping centre on Tuesday next week and again on Tuesday, December 20.

They will be there between 10am and 3pm on both occasions to hand out advice to people on how to keep valuables safe over the festive period.

Temporary Inspector Phil McConville, of Wallsend neighbourhood policing team, said: “We hope people will stop for a few minutes to have a quick chat with officers while they’re out doing their Christmas shopping.

“We want to encourage people to keep their valuables safe, and that means keeping purses and wallets secure inside fastened bags or coats.

“Store your shopping in the boot of your car, not left in plain view on car seats, as this can be attractive to opportunist thieves.”
