A NORTH Tyneside swimming pool is back in use and set to make a splash again after being closed for refurbishment.

Borough mayor Linda Arkley officially opened the revamped Tynemouth Pool.

The pool – actually, despite its name, in Beach Road in North Shields – now features a new-look reception area, new changing rooms and a dance studio.

Mrs Arkley said: “Tynemouth Pool is a fantastic, popular and well-used leisure facility, and I am delighted that we have been able to update the pool to offer new and improved facilities.”

The new unisex changing rooms include 26 double changing cubicles for use by parents and young children, three family cubicles and four for groups.

The refurbishment work was carried out by Kier North Tyneside.

The firm’s regional director, Mike Furze, said: “I am delighted that Kier North Tyneside has contributed to the transformation of Tynemouth Pool, which will continue to offer a range of leisure activities within a superb facility for years to come.”
