POLICE have been helping youngsters in Wallsend reach across the generation gap.

Around 60 pupils aged seven to 11 at Western Primary School have been involved in the project, managed by lead learning mentor Jen Barton.

The youngsters visited residents at the nearby Hadrian House Residential Care Home every Friday to try to get a better understanding of older members of their community.

Wallsend’s neighbourhood police team also got involved in the initiative.
